The challenges of engaging with Employer Sponsored Volunteering

The Office for Civil Society comes together with partners University of Sheffield, University of Hull, National Council for Voluntary Organisations and Business in the Community to host a regional workshop to explore the topical issue of Employer Sponsored Volunteering (ESV).

These regional workshops are in response to the Government announcement in 2015 of a ‘3 day volunteering leave’ initiative which would provide employees of firms with over 250 staff, and public sector employees, the right to undertake 3 paid volunteering days a year.

Workshops will examine infrastructural and organisational challenges of maximising the impact of ESV. Building on academic research, and bringing together public, private and third sector organisations, it provides an opportunity to explore challenges, and benefits, of building sustainable partnerships.

Key to understanding how benefits can be delivered effectively is the ability for cross-sectoral dialogue and consideration of the models of engagement, infrastructural support and potential for brokerage.
